PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 4

Check off another week, that will make 4 of the 15 regular season weeks done. This week we saw our first tie of the season (Plankers vs. Rebels), the first negative points (that hasn't happened since the 2005 season), and the number of undefeated teams is down to two.

Game of the week from last week: Last weeks game to watch was Purple Pirates of Sparrow's Island (3-0) versus the Dark Menace from Pirataly (3-0). The game's result hung in the balance throughout the Monday Night football game, and all seemed to be going the Maties way when the Steelers recovered a fumble for a touchdown. But the Vampirates wouldn't go down so easily and Ben Roethlisberger lead the way back for a win for Pirataly. Both teams played a great game and both coaches posted 100% efficiency scores for choosing who to play. These teams look like early favorites to get into the championship playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: The Big Bad Red Burns from Harbor Coast posted a week high score of 28 points, in big part due to the young QB Jason Campbell. RB stud A. Peterson also had a good game and the red and white coasted past the 'Nites.

Davey Jones Team: Week 12 of the 2005 season was the last time a team scored in the negatives. In the game the Futontopia Eldars (in their last season at Futontopia, the next year they moved to the Ninja Isle) lost to the Tea Republic Steepers -4 to 43. This week the Netthuania Fighting Mennonites racked up a -2 score after the Arizona defence let 50 points go by. The 'Nites are only 2-2 but if their DEF can't play any better this might be a long season for the artichoke farmers.

Brawl of the week: As if the great match up between the Maties and Vampirates wasn't good enough last week, this week the Vampirates will take center stage again when they face the Snotvia Snotknockers. Two undefeated teams enter the match, only one will survive, unless they tie... they they both will survive on a technicality. Grab your popcorn and your Stat Tracker this one is gonna be good.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 3

*I will post this each week in the comments section on the Yahoo league page, and I will also post it at http://pirateislandsff.blogspot.com/ *

The third week in the PIFF is over and we are starting to see some separation between the teams in the standings. The most interesting game this weekend was the Ampersands pulling off a narrow win over the Plankers. Since I have Stat Tracker I got updates to the score as the Monday Night game was going. The lead in the PIFF game switched back and forth a couple of times until J. Cotchery finally got a big catch to put the Golden Squiggles up for good.

Game of the week from last week: The game to watch from last week was the Red Burns playing the Red Hot Vampirates. The Piratalieans were able to take a convincing win and move on to 3-0, in large part do to Franky G. at running back.

Team to raise the sails: Davin's Pillagers notched a score of 35 points this last week, well above the rest of the scores for the league, the next closest was the Vampirates with 26. There wasn't one player on the Pillagers that scored more than 6 points, however, all but one player on the team scored. So the huge score was due to a team effort rather than one player getting hot. The Pillagers look like they are a solid team.

Davey Jones Team: The ailing Eldars once again post the low score for the week. The team looks like they have depth on the bench, but the players are just too inconsistent to know who should be played and who should be benched.

Brawl of the week: All eyes will be turned to the great match up we have in week 4 between the Sparrow Island Maties and the Pirataly Vampirates. Both teams are 3-0 and both teams have been winning their games by a comfortable margin. It will be interesting to see how things go during the first week of byes.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 2

The second week of the PIFF season is over, and scoring around the league is down. It looks like this is a combination of some quarterbacks and running backs under performing, as well as some defenses allowing many points, and toss in Houston and Baltimore not playing and we get a couple of teams barely scoring any points. The upset of the week has to go to the Pillagers who was able to soundly defeat the Fighting Mennonites. Thus making both teams 1-1.

Game of the week from last week: Last week the game to watch was the Maties versus the Kilters, which was the only game between 1-0 teams. It turned out that the chaps from Sparrow Island were able to beat the Scotslandi-ers without too much problems with a final score of 25-7.

Team to raise the sails: The Harbor Coast Red Burns posted a week high score of 33, to bring the make them the highest scoring 1-1 team at 50 points. They have a core of young, high powered players with Adrian Peterson and Jason Campbell, and a defense that looks to actually give the Red Burns some positive points.

Davey Jones Team: It is a tough call for this week, The Eldars scored 3 points, the Kilters 7, and the Steepers 10. However only one team could have been saved by playing better players that were sitting on the bench: the Steepers. After winning week one, the Steepers pulled the semi-effective Jets defense in favor of the porous Dallas D. This move not only cost the team 5 points but also the win.

Brawl of the week: This week all eyes will be on the match up between the Big Red Burns (1-1) and the Pirataly (they want your blood) Vampirates (2-0). The Vampirates have been making their case to be the turn-around team for 2008, while the Red Burns have been posting high scores regularly. The winner of this game will most likely be in a top 4 spot by weeks end.

All-Stars Week 2:

Pos Player Pts Team
QB E. Manning 11 Picklers
RB C. Portis 10 Pillagers
WR1 A. Boldin 8 Red Burns
WR2 B. Marshall 7 Snotknockers
TE T. Scheffler 4 Eldars
K J. Elam 3 Eldars
DEF Tennessee 3 Pillagers
DB1 C. Woodson 9 Rebels
DB2 C. Bailey 3 Eldars
DL1 P. Willis 6 Rum Runners
DL2 D. White 5 Kilters
Coach Rusty 100%Rum Runners

(I failed to mention how I pick the coach of the week last time. To find the percent I look at points the team scored versus points possible from all player on the team, including players on the bench. The coach of the week played the highest percent of points possible for their team. So for example this week Rusty got as many points as he could have out of his team.)

Total All-Stars:
4 Ninja Isle Eldars
3 Berry Isle Rum Runners
2 Netthuania Nites
2 Tea Republic Steepers
2 Harbor Coast Red Burns
2 Tsukestan Picklers
2 Scotslandi Kilters
2 Svinksland Pillagers
1 Pirataly Vampirates
1 Ambersandia &s
1 Sparrow Island Maties
1 Kreplachistan Rebels
1 Snotvia Snotknockers
0 Takawokonia Plankers

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 1

Week one is over and there were quite a few surprises to kick off the season. The upset of the week goes to the Netthuania Fighting Mennonites who pulled off a huge upset over the perennial powerhouse Takawokonia Plankers. Even if Brady didn't go down with an injury chances are slim that they could have matched the firepower of the Mennonite Menace. Keep in mind the Nites combined record in the PIFF is 13-30-1 over the last three seasons; it looks like these two teams are heading in different directions.

Brawl of the week: The only matchup between teams with 1-0 records next week is the Sparrow Island Maties, who lost the PIFF championship last year. Versus the Scotslandi Kilters who failed to make it to the championship playoffs by one game. The winner of this game will at least be in the top five teams after week two, and since less than 30% of the teams make it to the championship playoffs every win against a winning team is huge.

Team to raise the sails: Pirataly Vampirates. The Vampirates scored a league high 33 points and still had some players in the bench that could have been used for an even better score. Historically the Vampirates have been fading, and last year posted a dismal 3-12 record. However Roethlesburger and Gore look like they are stepping up this year.

Davey Jones Team: The Takawokonia Plankers had an abysmal first week. Their all-star QB Brady got hurt and will be out the whole year. Chad Ocho Cinco got a total of 0 points. And Steven Jackson only got 3 points. The Plankers, who are always a favorites to compete for the PIFF Championship, have fallen completely flat out of the gate and lost only their 6th regular season game ever.
