In a very close game the Svinksland Pillagers beat the Kreplachistan Rebels 38 to 34 to win the 7th Pirate Islands Fantasy Football Championship. If you had stat-tracker pulled up during the game you know how close this game was, it ended up tied after Monday Night Football but a forced fumble by Kevin Boss gave the Pillagers a win (the points were awarded after the games were over). Congratulations to the Pillagers for their long awaited first Championship.
In the end the Tea Republic Boilers beat out the Battle Cove Coasters 49 to 29 to win the first Pirate Islands Minor League Championship. The win was largely due to Chris Johnson's performance as running back.
We are heading into the championship games in both leagues, so lets get caught up with how the playoffs have gone so far:

PIFF: The playoffs started in week 15, the Kreplachistan Rebels and Tuskestan Pickles got first round byes, while the Tea Republic Steepers beat the Scotslandi Kilters and the Svinksland Pillagers beat the Ninja Isle Eldars.
The second week of playoffs saw the Kreplachistan Rebels beat the Tea Rebulic Steepers, while the Svinksland Pillagers got on by the Tsukestan Picklers.
This sets up the Championship Game of the Kreplachistan Rebels vs. the Svinksland Pillagers. This will be the second time that the Pillagers have made it to the championship game, the other time was the first season of PIFF in which they lost to the Grog Island Drunks. The Rebels on the other hand have played in more than half of the championship games (this will make 4 out of 7) and is the only team to be the champion twice (2004 & 2007). The projected score for the game is giving an edge to the Rebels by only one point.

PIML: The PIML playoffs started last week and had the Tea Republic Boilers taking out the Tai Shu Trip'ems, while the Battle Cove Coasters beat the late surging Pesce Bay Savvy Sirens.
So the first ever PIML championship game will be played out between the two heavy favorite from the start of the season - the Battle Cove Coasters and the Tea Republic Boilers. Early reports heavily favor the Boilers however that projected score greatly depends on the performance of Chris Johnson for the Boilers.

I will get out the final All-Star totals as well as season All-Stars after the Championship Games.Ookami Snowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10396649763195640076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13355659.post-52551373308613305862009-12-09T08:23:00.000-08:002009-12-09T08:23:56.680-08:00PIFF/PIML Highlights and All-Stars 09 Week 13Hello,
Sorry about missing a week -I had tons of stuff to do at work, you would think everybody would be slacking off before Thanksgiving, but no.
First I should congratulate Mike (of the Picklers) and Julia (of the Kilters) on their first baby. They have a good amount of pictures posted on Facebook so check them out. Huzzah!
It is starting to come down to the last couple of games in the regular season for the football leagues so let's see how the playoff races are shaping up:

PIFF: There are two weeks left before the first round of the newly expanded playoffs. Right now the Picklers (8-4) and Kilters (8-4) are fighting for the Red Division championship and a first round bye. While the Pillagers (8-4) and the Rebels (effectivly 8-4) are battling over the Black Division. This leaves the Steepers (7-5), Maties (6-5-1), Eldars & Plankers (6-6), and the Snotknockers & Nites (5-7) to fight over the last two playoff spots.

PIML: There are three weeks until the playoffs in the PIML. There are four spots and five teams still in the hunt. The Coasters and the Boilers are in the lead with 7-5 records, while the Savvy Sirens, Trip 'ems, and Focus are all 6-6.

PIFF: The big game of the week was the Plankers and Pillagers fighting to a 42-42 draw. That result leaves the Plankers half a game out of a playoff spot, and allowed the Rebels to take the lead in the Black Division. In the Red Division the Picklers and the Steepers are tied with a 7-3 record for the lead, many other teams are close behind.

PIML: The Savvy Sirens are on a three game winning streak and the Coasters are on a two game losing streak. This has allowed the Sirens to share the lead in the league with the Coasters and the Trip'ems. The Boilers are fourth with the Focus and Monkey Strings close behind.
PIFF: The Kilters are on a three game winning streak to be tied on top of the Red Division with a 6-3 record. The other teams with a 6-3 record are the Picklers and Steepers. In the Black Division the Pillagers have won two in a row and are now half a game ahead of the Rebels.
PIML: The Savvy Sirens and the Trip'ems both posted wins with 45 points scored, and both gained ground on the leading Coasters. Also the Focus has been on a two game winning streak which has caught them up to the faltering Boilers.
The NFL is now halfway through it's season and the what the heck are the Saints doing still being undefeated? A bit of news is that this will be the last week for Coaches being included in the All-Stars since StatTracker has now made it impossible to find out optimal scores the day after the games are over.

PIFF: In a surprise to no one the Red Division is getting even closer, all teams are within one game of each other, and there are four teams at 5-3. The big win for the weekend was the Eldars putting up big numbers on the Picklers. The Black Division seems to be more of a three team race with the Rebels owning a half game lead on the Pillagers and Plankers.

PIML: The Battle Cove Coasters beat the Tai Shu Trip'ems soundly to take the lead in the PIML. The Savvy Sirens and the Boilers are trying to keep up as the Monkey Strings and Focus limp on behind.
We are just past a third of the way through the football season, and the divide between the good and the bad teams in the NFL seems to be huge. The mismatches in the NFL mean high scoring games in fantasy football. I think this week was one of the highest scoring weeks in a long time.

PIFF: The Black Division continues to be hotly contested as all teams are either 3-3 or 4-2, while the Red Division is starting to show some separation between the top and bottom teams. The Plankers and Nites combines for more than 100 points this week as the Plankers pulled off a win (some help from Tom Brady) to keep pace with the Pillagers.

During a week of NFL games that had some pretty large blowouts we had a good week of close games in PIFF, and even more ties in PIML.
In the one of the closest games of the week bottom dwelling Ninja Isle Eldars pulled off a win against the Black Division leader Pillagers. This brings the Eldars record up to 2-3 with both wins coming against Black Division opponents.
Everyone survived the first round of byes last week (however some did better than others). In both leagues there isn't one team that looks to be unstoppable this year, so each week is important to keep up with, or in front of, the pack.

PIFF: The Netthuania Nites trounced the Sparrow Island Maties 59-14. This leaves both teams at 2-2 and in the middle of the pack in the standings. Also the Snotknockers were able to pull off an improbable win against the Plankers, with Jarred Allen socring 13 points during the Monday Night football game.
This entails quite a bit of time for each team, especially the drafting.

What I'm doing for Team Location is where the Team Owner is living now, so for example the Kreplachistan Rebels are based out of Schofield Barracks, HI. The Snotvia Snotknockers and Tea Repbulic Steepers are out of Tulsa, OK, etc.

Shannon was nice enough to provide me the RGB values for the official PIFF helmets, so the jerseys are licensed by the PIFF Commissioner ;) I'm doing my best to use the limited Logos in Madden to match up best with the logos/theme of the team in PIFF. So for the Rebels "Sun" logo (ie a big yellow circle) I had to match it with the Madden Atom logo, and for the Tea Republic Steepers their "Tea Football Leaf" matches best with the Madden Meteor logo.

I wish Madden 2010 had the feature NCAA Football 2010 has called Team Builder where you can create a team online, then anyone could download it into NCAA 2010. That would make life much easier, I'd tell you to create your team jerseys, stadium, we could actually import logos from image files on the computer to use, etc. But sadly they don't and with Madden we have to deal with the limited logos and team creation options they have...

My next solution would be to tell you to go out and rent Madden 2010 for the PS3, create your jersey, stadium, and tell me the values and I'd input it, but I understand not everyone has a PS3, or doesn't care that much lol.

So for unforms, the helmets are best duplicated from the PIFF helmet logos we use in Yahoo. I need to know what colors people want for their home/away jerseys, home/away pants, socks, shoes. In the mean time I'll input the colors with the values Shannon provided and leave it at what Madden defaults the uniforms to.

For example the Kreplachistan Rebels main colors are Yellow and Blue. I already know what the exact values are for those blues and yellow, so you'd just have to tell me, I want all Yellow Jerseys with Blue Numbers, names, yellow pants with white stripes, etc. For away jerseys, white jerseys, yellow trim, yellow pants, etc. You get the idea. Maybe my vision of your team would is different from yours, and ultimately it's your team so I'd love to get everyone's input :)

For Stadiums, take a look here Madden 2008 Create a Stadium. Tell me the name of your stadium, the endzone area title, mine is titled the "Tomlinson Fsn Club" after my star running back LT :D Do you want your field to be grass or turf? What color for your endzones? You want a dome, open stadium, mobile roof, etc. For outdoor stadiums pick your background enviornment like downtown, rural, urban, mountains. Do you want a huge modern scoreboard on one end zone, pressboxes, more seats?

Now for the drafting, which is quite a pain compared to other Madden's I've done this in. Fortunately there's a site that lists the Madden 2010 values for the players on each team, because Madden doesn't break down fantasy drafts by team, they just do it by position and rating. Obviously I draft everyone on your team, QBs, RBs, WRs, etc. For OL and FBs here's what I did for mine team. I have LT (SD), Thomas Jones (NYJ), and Willis McGahee (BAL) as my running backs. Anyway I take the entire O-Lines for the Chargers, Jets, and Ravens, and same for Full Back (LT, LG, C, RG, RT, etc.) and fill your team with the best of the players from those teams. Same for defense, I have the Packers and Ravens, so I do the same, assemble all the Packers and Ravens D, and draft them, etc. For Punters I look at the punter for the team(s) you have your Kicker on, and pick the better one.

Madden requires a certain number of players at each position:

QB - 2
HB - 3
FB - 1
WR - 4
TE - 2
LT - 2
LG - 2
C - 2
RG - 2
RT - 2
K - 1

LE - 2
RE - 2
DT - 3
LOLB - 2
MLB - 2
ROLB - 2
CB - 4
FS - 2
SS - 2
P - 1

So say you only have 3 WRs on your team, I'll fill your 4th with the same player for every team to make it fair. I also draft your IDPs on top of the best spots for DEF, so while I may have the best combo btw the Packers and Ravens, I also have Julius Peppers, and Adrian Wilson on my team. I let Madden auto depth chart, etc.

I've drafted the Rebels like six times lol, and that's how I came up with the idea for the combining of teams. The first couple of times I did the Rebels, I just did San Diego's OL and Baltimore's DEF. But after realizing if you want to change players you have to re-draft your whole team, I thought well what happens when I sim the game when Baltimore or San Diego has a bye, what to do then? That's when I got the combo idea.

So why am I doing all this you might ask? I want to see how Madden is at simming/predicting the outcomes of PIFF games. Yeah I understand it's different in "Madden PIFF" because when I play the Plankers, Aaron Rodgers is facing the Plankers, not the team the Packers play that week. I also want to upload highlights from the games, as I know Madden supports uploading highlights for the games. I thought that'd be a fun "column" for the PIFF Blog :)

Comments, suggestions, critiques? Yes I realize this takes quite a bit of time, but I'm having fun doing it, just like Shannon has fun designing the helmets and logos. I'll keep you posted as I go. Right now I just have my team drafted, and started designing the Steepers in the game. While I wait for everyone's replies I'll just input the colors Shannon provided, draft your team, and make sure the jerseys look OK, without messing with them too much.

Rock Rock on!

Aaron
Head Coach - Kreplachistan Rebels - Schofield Barracks, HIAaron Brownhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10299535095709639994noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13355659.post-19752762210258679392009-09-29T09:22:00.000-07:002009-09-29T09:25:09.298-07:00PIFF/PIML Highlights and All-Stars 09 Week 3Hello,
Week three is in the books and the injury toll is starting to rise around the league. Some major players were knocked out early in their games like last week Frank Gore and Chad Pennington which lead to some surprising results in the fantasy football world.

PIFF: Davin's Pillagers continue on their non-losing ways and are sitting atop PIFF with a record of 2-0-1. The rest of the field is close behind, especially in the Red Division where 4 of the 6 teams are 2-1. This year however there will be incentive to go check out the blog because Aaron (Kreplachistan Rebels) has been added as an author of the blog and he will be writing articles about the season as it happens. He has good insight into Fantasy Football so be sure to check up on the blog to see what he has to say.

In the PIFF both the Steepers and the Plankers posted big numbers in their wins, both teams look to maintain their high competition level this year. The two surprise teams after the first week are the Nites who are second in scoring in the Black Division, and the Picklers who usually save their wins for the second half of the season. It looks like this will be a tougher season all the way around for everyone in the PIFF.

PIML kicked off the opening week with round of high scores. The Battle Cove Coasters had little trouble with the Boilers. While the Focus outlasted the Sirens and the Trip'ems tripped up the MonkeyStrings. The Trip'ems posted the high score for the week in the PIML.

Socring is up in week 1, due to two things: 1) Receiving yards now score one point for each 20 yards. 2) There are now bonuses for rushing, throwing, and receiving yards. There might be a couple too many points on the board but we'll live with it for a season and see how things go.

On to the week 1 All-Stars. The Tea Republic Steepers was able to hold off the Snotvia Snotknockers to win the Championship, while the Scotslandi Kilters continued their impressive late season run to win the Consolation bracket, beating the Tsukestan Picklers. If the Kilters would have had won one more game in the regular season they would have made it to, and won the Championship Playoffs.

As always I am grateful for everyone putting in the time to play the season, I had a great time playing and I hope everyone else did. The plan for finishing up the season is to get everyone a price list for the keepers sometime later this year when salary cap figures are released.

I think that the changes in the scoring system that we had were a step in the right direction, but they are still going to need some tweaks. The biggest change for next year will probably be a reduction in negative points for DEF points allowed. I still like the idea of losing points for poor DEF performances, but this year it seemed that too many of the outcomes each week were directly tied to the performance of the DEF. I am also thinking about getting receiving yards more points, and adding in bonus points for yards gained (like 1 extra point for a 100 yard game). Throughout the season this year I have been recording the NFL data so that I can run the numbers to try to see what should to be changed. I'll give some more updates when I start working on that.

One big thing I am considering for next year is to start a "minor league" for PIFF. I am starting to meet more people that are interested in joining our league, or just want to give fantasy football a try. Our league can only hold 14 teams is the max and I do not want anyone to leave PIFF so I thought that running a side non-keeper league would be a way to introduce new people while not giving them the pressure of having to be in a league "that counts". I would run the minor league just like PIFF except for the keeper aspect of it, so the scoring system would be the same, as would the naming conventions of the teams, etc. I think that as long as there are 4 or 5 new people interested I will give it a shot. So if you have a significant other, parent, or sibling that wants to give fantasy football a shot next year let me know (especially since they would be in a different league you could help them out more than if they were in PIFF). The sooner I get people signed up the sooner I can make football helmets for them, and as we all know the PIFF is a just ruse so that I have an excuse to make football helmets. :)

Well as I said at the opening, this was another great year of PIFF, and I have already started to think about who I am going to keep for next year and who needs to get the ax.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas, and enjoy the NFL playoffs!
(Anyone else rooting for a Cardinals/Dolphins Super Bowl?)Ookami Snowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10396649763195640076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13355659.post-12257099746674601662008-12-23T08:33:00.001-08:002008-12-23T08:33:31.695-08:00PIFF 2008 Playoffs Week 1In a break from the regular format I will quickly talk about the playoff games from last week.

Championship Playoffs:
Pirataly Vampirates vs. Tea Republic Steepers - The Vampirates had played almost a flawless regular season (tied for the best regular season record of all time in PIFF at 13-2), but last week all aspects of the team fell apart, and they only scored 5 points. On the other side of the ball, the Steepers limped into the playoffs with an under-performing team, they turned it around for the first game of the playoffs and scored 44 points.

Svinksland Pillagers vs. Snotvia Snotknockers - The once mighty Pillagers continued their slide after Kurt Warner played horribly in New England. Even so the game was very close, and the Chicago Defense was just able to keep the Snotknockers in the lead at the end of the game.

Consolation Playoffs:
Tsukestan Picklers vs. Harbor Coast Red Burns - DeAngelo Williams alone scored 17 points for the Picklers, in one of the best performances by a running back this year. While the Red Burns lacked scoring with Adrian Peterson only getting two points and the team scored a total of 11.

Scotslandi Kilers vs. Kreplachitstan Rebels - The Kilters continue their winning ways as they stop the Rebels 25 to 17. That makes five wins in a row for the Orange and Blue, while the Rebels have lost four straight.

Championship Game:
Snotvia Snotknockers vs. Tea Republic Steepers - The Snotknockers will make their first appearance in the Championship Game this week when they meet up with the playoff veteran Steepers. The mean green will rely on the Cutler/Westbrook duo that got them to the playoffs, while the Steepers might have to bench Manning in favor of Flacco. As always the Championship Game will come to the depth of the teams, not just the scoring power of one or two players.

Consolation Game:
Scotlandi Kilers vs. Tsukestan Picklers - It is fitting that these two teams meet each other in the consolation game, given our championship match up. It is a house divided all around this year. As mentioned before the Kilters are on a roll and look like they can't be stopped but there are some Picklers that will have something to say about that.

Have a great Christmas, and enjoy the last week of regular season NFL football!Ookami Snowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10396649763195640076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13355659.post-52169405065918712032008-12-16T07:57:00.000-08:002008-12-16T07:59:45.141-08:00PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 15What an amazing finish to the regular season. Four teams had the chance to make the final championship playoff spot with a win, all of which lost, which defaulted the Steepers into the playoffs because they scored more points throughout the season. This week the Championship playoffs pit the Pirataly Vampirates vs the Tea Republic Steepers and the Svinksland Pillagers vs. the Snotvia Snotknockers. The Consolation Playoffs has the first round match ups of Tsukestan Picklers vs. Harbor Coast Red Burns and Scotlandi Kilters and Kreplachistan Rebels.

Game of the week from last week: The game of the week last week was the Maties and the Kilters. The Kilters put on an impressive showing preventing the Maties from making a repeat appearance in the Championship playoffs. If the Snotknockers lose they still have an easy in by winning in week 15, but if the Rebels lose they will be thrown into the pack that is looking to claim the fourth playoff spot. The Vampirates who are 11-1 have claimed the first championship playoff spot, the Pillagers can get their spot with a win in the next three weeks, and the Snotknockers and Rebels control their own destiny. The rest of the field needs to keep on winning to keep their chances alive.

Game of the week from last week: Last week the Red Burns and Snotknockers played a tight game up until the Green Bay defense allowed New Orleans to score 51 points. The win for the Snotknockers moved them back into third place overall and in a good position to get into the championship playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: The Pirataly Vampirates officially are the first team to claim a championship playoff spot. The big changes this year were the increase in Individual Defensive Player (IDP) points, and the return of negative points for DEF points allowed. I think that the bump in IDP points have worked out fine, overall they don't change too much, but every once in awhile a player will have a big game and rack out 6 or 8 points. Giving points to sacks does give importance to the DL, which was the goal. I am not as happy about the minus points for DEF. Overall our league is averaging lower scores than the NFL and I think that minus points for DEF is what is causing this. Next season I will rework the distribution of negative points, and prob drop the huge minus if the DEF allows alot of points. What are your thoughts? What needs to be changed and what needs to stay the same?

Remember that from now on football games start on Thursday.

Week 11 brings two more wins for the top two teams as they start to pull away from the pack and get ready for a run at the Championship. The Vampirtaes need to win just one more game to make it to the championship playoffs, Pillagers need to win two, and the Snotknockers can claim their spot with winning out the rest of the season. On the other hand everyone is still in the running for the consolation playoffs and only the &s and Rum Runners have no shot at the championship playoffs.

Game of the week from last week: The Red Burns continue their last season push (4-1-1 in the last six games) as they glide on by the faltering Maties. The win for the Red Burns has them holding the final championship playoff spot, while the Maties are now needing to get back on track to get in a spot to make the big playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: The Harbor Coast Red Burns once again are making a statement that they are serious about making it to the championship playoffs. They have faced tough opponents and have come out the best once again.

Davey Jones Team: Although the Maties are still putting up decent scores they have now gone 1-4 in the last five games. They once were in the lead pack running even with the Vampirates and the Pillagers but now they are scrambling to save their chances to get into the championship playoffs.

Brawl of the week: The Red Burns (6-4-1) once again have a statement game ahead of them when they play the 7-4 Snotknockers. If the Snotknockers win they will almost have a championship playoffs spot wrapped up, while a win the the Red Burns will put them in a solid position for the playoffs. As the season gets later the games get more important, and this is a big one.

All-Stars Week 11:

Pos Player Pts Team
QB M. Cassel 17 Plankers
RB D. So make sure you get your team set in time. Also note that the &s played a DEF (Was) that was on a bye so I set the point total for the team to 0 for the week (down from 13).

Week 10 brings the close of the 2nd third of the PIFF regular season. With 5 games remaining all teams are still eligible to get into the championship playoffs (the top four teams make it). However some outcomes or more likely than others, the Rum Runners need to win out and have no more teams win their 7th game of the season, which chances are, won't happen. The Vampirates need to win three out of their next five games to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. After this week's games I will start to have a better rundown of the playoff picture.

Game of the week from last week: Last week the red hot Pillagers were taking on the Snotvia Snotknockers. The good game was not realized however when the Pillagers only scored one point through Sunday and ended up losing the game 25-13. That drops the Pillagers one game behind the Vampirates and only one game ahead of the Snotknockers.

Team to raise the sails: The Harbor Coast Red Burns took a large step last week to save their season. In a close 32-27 win they were able to get by the Rebels and put themselves only half a game out of the championship playoffs.

Davey Jones Team: We have to take the opportunity to pick out the Pillagers when they give us a chance, because they are few and far between. Week after week the Pillagers have been posting the high scores and it was somewhat odd to see that they could barley break the teens in scoring. Hopefully this was just an off week for the team.

Brawl of the week: After the Red Burns pulled out a big win over the Rebels they now face the Maties in a game that both teams need to win. The Maties have been doing fine this year starting out 5-1, however since then they have gone 1-3 and are in danger of losing their playoff spot.

All-Stars Week 10:

Pos Player Pts Team
QB J. So make sure you get your team set in time. Also Amber asked a question about picking All-Stars on the PIFF blog, I will answer her over there, and on our Yahoo league page.

Just as week 8 saw the end on one streak, week 9 is welcomed across Berry Isle as their losing streak comes to an end, and their team records their first win. There are 6 weeks left to go in the regular season.

Game of the week from last week: Last week there were two games of the week. The first was the Pillagers taking on the 2007 PIFF runner-ups Maties. The Pillagers stayed trye to form in this game and won by nine points, bringing their win streak up to 8 games. The other game of the week was the Vampirates facing off against the Rebels. Although the Vampirtaes offense had some problems, their two DLs racked up 13 points, enough to get the team a win.

Team to raise the sails: The Berry Isle Rum Runners had been victims of many close losses throughout the 08 season so far. So it is nice to see them get a win. But not only did they win but their defence actually played ok as well. Once they figure out the right defense all the time they will start to pile on the wins.

Davey Jones Team: The Tsukestan Pickles put up an anemic 7 points this last weekend when they faced off against the 'Nites. It is like the team didn't even show up to play.

Brawl of the week: The best week 10 match up is Davin's Stomping Good Pillagers versus Nicole's Mean Green Snotknockers. Currently the Snotknockers hold the final Championship Playoff spot, however one loss will allow other teams to pass them. While the Pillagers must win to keep up the pace with the Vampirates.

All-Stars Week 8:

Pos Player Pts Team
QB K. Warner 10 Pillagers
RB A.
