PIFF 2008 Championship and Wrap Up

Now we must close the 2008 season, which was another successful year for the PIFF. The Tea Republic Steepers was able to hold off the Snotvia Snotknockers to win the Championship, while the Scotslandi Kilters continued their impressive late season run to win the Consolation bracket, beating the Tsukestan Picklers. If the Kilters would have had won one more game in the regular season they would have made it to, and won the Championship Playoffs.

As always I am grateful for everyone putting in the time to play the season, I had a great time playing and I hope everyone else did. The plan for finishing up the season is to get everyone a price list for the keepers sometime later this year when salary cap figures are released.

I think that the changes in the scoring system that we had were a step in the right direction, but they are still going to need some tweaks. The biggest change for next year will probably be a reduction in negative points for DEF points allowed. I still like the idea of losing points for poor DEF performances, but this year it seemed that too many of the outcomes each week were directly tied to the performance of the DEF. I am also thinking about getting receiving yards more points, and adding in bonus points for yards gained (like 1 extra point for a 100 yard game). Throughout the season this year I have been recording the NFL data so that I can run the numbers to try to see what should to be changed. I'll give some more updates when I start working on that.

One big thing I am considering for next year is to start a "minor league" for PIFF. I am starting to meet more people that are interested in joining our league, or just want to give fantasy football a try. Our league can only hold 14 teams is the max and I do not want anyone to leave PIFF so I thought that running a side non-keeper league would be a way to introduce new people while not giving them the pressure of having to be in a league "that counts". I would run the minor league just like PIFF except for the keeper aspect of it, so the scoring system would be the same, as would the naming conventions of the teams, etc. I think that as long as there are 4 or 5 new people interested I will give it a shot. So if you have a significant other, parent, or sibling that wants to give fantasy football a shot next year let me know (especially since they would be in a different league you could help them out more than if they were in PIFF). The sooner I get people signed up the sooner I can make football helmets for them, and as we all know the PIFF is a just ruse so that I have an excuse to make football helmets. :)

Well as I said at the opening, this was another great year of PIFF, and I have already started to think about who I am going to keep for next year and who needs to get the ax.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas, and enjoy the NFL playoffs!
(Anyone else rooting for a Cardinals/Dolphins Super Bowl?)

PIFF 2008 Playoffs Week 1

In a break from the regular format I will quickly talk about the playoff games from last week.

Championship Playoffs:
Pirataly Vampirates vs. Tea Republic Steepers - The Vampirates had played almost a flawless regular season (tied for the best regular season record of all time in PIFF at 13-2), but last week all aspects of the team fell apart, and they only scored 5 points. On the other side of the ball, the Steepers limped into the playoffs with an under-performing team, they turned it around for the first game of the playoffs and scored 44 points.

Svinksland Pillagers vs. Snotvia Snotknockers - The once mighty Pillagers continued their slide after Kurt Warner played horribly in New England. Even so the game was very close, and the Chicago Defense was just able to keep the Snotknockers in the lead at the end of the game.

Consolation Playoffs:
Tsukestan Picklers vs. Harbor Coast Red Burns - DeAngelo Williams alone scored 17 points for the Picklers, in one of the best performances by a running back this year. While the Red Burns lacked scoring with Adrian Peterson only getting two points and the team scored a total of 11.

Scotslandi Kilers vs. Kreplachitstan Rebels - The Kilters continue their winning ways as they stop the Rebels 25 to 17. That makes five wins in a row for the Orange and Blue, while the Rebels have lost four straight.

Championship Game:
Snotvia Snotknockers vs. Tea Republic Steepers - The Snotknockers will make their first appearance in the Championship Game this week when they meet up with the playoff veteran Steepers. The mean green will rely on the Cutler/Westbrook duo that got them to the playoffs, while the Steepers might have to bench Manning in favor of Flacco. As always the Championship Game will come to the depth of the teams, not just the scoring power of one or two players.

Consolation Game:
Scotlandi Kilers vs. Tsukestan Picklers - It is fitting that these two teams meet each other in the consolation game, given our championship match up. It is a house divided all around this year. As mentioned before the Kilters are on a roll and look like they can't be stopped but there are some Picklers that will have something to say about that.

Have a great Christmas, and enjoy the last week of regular season NFL football!

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 15

What an amazing finish to the regular season. Four teams had the chance to make the final championship playoff spot with a win, all of which lost, which defaulted the Steepers into the playoffs because they scored more points throughout the season. This week the Championship playoffs pit the Pirataly Vampirates vs the Tea Republic Steepers and the Svinksland Pillagers vs. the Snotvia Snotknockers. The Consolation Playoffs has the first round match ups of Tsukestan Picklers vs. Harbor Coast Red Burns and Scotlandi Kilters and Kreplachistan Rebels.

Game of the week from last week: The game of the week last week was the Maties and the Kilters. The Kilters put on an impressive showing preventing the Maties from making a repeat appearance in the Championship playoffs. The game was close but the Kilters held on in the end.

Team to raise the sails: The Berry Island Rum Runners started the season 1-10 but won 3 out of their last 4 games to finish up their season. It turns out to be too late to make a push for the Consolation Playoffs, but it seems that the team is starting to work better and will have a foundation for next year.

Davey Jones Team: The Kreplachistan Rebels finished the season scoring the most points in PIFF however they failed to make the Championship Playoffs due to their inability to win when they needed to. Their coaching was lacking this year and hopefully they can recover next year.

Brawl of the week: All eyes will be turned to the Championship battle of the Pillagers and Snotknockers this week. Both teams have played a solid season so far and they both would like a PIFF Championship (actually none of the teams in the Championship Playoffs have won PIFF before). This game will be close.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 14

Remember that from now on football games start on Thursday.

One week to go, here is the playoff picture:

Championship Playoffs:
Piratly Vampirates, Svinksland Pillagers, Snotvia Snotknockers: Already are in.

Tea Republic Steepers: Win and in.

Tsukestan Picklers: With a win and a Steepers loss.

Kreplachistan Rebels: With a win and a Steepers and a Picklers loss.

Sparrow Island Maties: With a win and a loss by Steeprs, Picklers, and Rebels.

(Other teams could get close record wise, but would have to score too many points for them to win the tiebreaker to get in.)

Consolation Playoffs:

Picklers: Are in, unless they move up.

Rebels: Win to stay in.

Maties: Win to stay in.

Kilters: Win and in.

Nites: Win and a Kilter loss, or a win and a Kilter loss where the Nites score 5 more points than the Kilters.

Red Burns: Win and a loss by the Nites, and a Kilters win.

Game of the week from last week: The Snotvia Snotknockers was able to hold off the Rebels 38 to 33 to claim their spot in the playoffs. While the loss for the Rebels knocks them down to Consolation Playoff level, and they will need help in the last week to be able to make it back into the Championship Playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: After the Kilters started out the season 3-6 they have recently gone 4-1 and are within one win of making it into the consolation playoffs. The team has consistently got better throughout the year, and although their hopes for a championship are gone for this season, they will have a solid base for next year.

Davey Jones Team: The Harbor Coast Red Burns were making a late season push for the Championship Playoffs until they lost three games in a row. Currently not only are they out of the championship playoff race, they need help to make it into the consolation playoffs.

Brawl of the week: The Scotslandi Kilters play the Sparrow Island Maties in a match up that has both Championship and Consolation Playoff implications. A win by the Maties will give them a chance at making it back to the Championship Playoffs, while a win for the Kilters would give the team a high ranking in the Consolation Playoffs. A loss by either team could mean that they won't make it to the Consolation Playoffs.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 13

Remember that from now on football games start on Thursday.

With two games remaining in the regular season the playoff picture is getting clearer:
Piratly Vampirates: Already has the number one position locked up.

Svinksland Pillagers: Will get in with one win, or a one loss by both the Steepers and the Picklers.

Snotvia Snotknockers: Will get in with one win, or a one loss by both the Steepers and the Picklers.

Kreplachistan Rebels: Will get in with two wins, or with one win and a loss by Steepers, Picklers, Red Burns, Maties, Kilters, and Nites.

Picklers, Steepers: Needs to win one more game than the Rebels, or win both games and either the Pillagers or Snotknockers lose both games.

Red Burns: Can make it with one win and two losses by the Rebels, Picklers, and Steepers. Or with two wins and one loss by the Rebels, Picklers and Steepers.

Maties, Kilters and Nites: Must win two games, the Rebels must lose both games, and then also get some help with the Picklers, Steepers, and Red Burns.

Game of the week from last week: Once again the Sparrow Island Maties score one of the most points but happen to play against the team that scores the most points for the week. This time the Snotknockers racked up 38 to the Maties 32. The Maties now need serious help to get into the playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: The Tsukestan Picklers saved their season by taking on the once dominant Pillagers and almost doubling their points. The Picklers are now 5-1 in the last six weeks after starting 2-5. This is classic Picklers football (suck in the beginning of the season and winning in the end).

Davey Jones Team: The Pillagers seem to be in free fall. They started the season 8-1 and was keeping up with the Vampirates, but since then they have dropped 3 out of 4 games. They might still be able to lose the rest of the way and make it into the playoffs, but their team doesn't seems as unstoppable as they did before.

Brawl of the week: Although the Vampirates play the Pillagers this week that is not the game of the week since the Vampirates already has their spot wrapped up (and a win by the Pillagers would get them into the playoffs as well). No, the brawl of the week this week is the Snotknockers versus the Rebels. Both teams are currently in positions to be in the playoffs, however one team must lose this game. If the Snotknockers lose they still have an easy in by winning in week 15, but if the Rebels lose they will be thrown into the pack that is looking to claim the fourth playoff spot. Look for both teams to play extra hard so they can tie up their spot in the playoffs.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 12

Remember that from now on football games start on Thursday.

There are only 3 weeks remaining in the regular season and teams are starting to claim playoff spots. The Vampirates who are 11-1 have claimed the first championship playoff spot, the Pillagers can get their spot with a win in the next three weeks, and the Snotknockers and Rebels control their own destiny. The rest of the field needs to keep on winning to keep their chances alive.

Game of the week from last week: Last week the Red Burns and Snotknockers played a tight game up until the Green Bay defense allowed New Orleans to score 51 points. The win for the Snotknockers moved them back into third place overall and in a good position to get into the championship playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: The Pirataly Vampirates officially are the first team to claim a championship playoff spot. Their record of 11-1 is two wins better than the next team and they are second place in scoring. Now we will see if the players get to rest before the playoffs or if they will be pressed to keep on playing.

Davey Jones Team: It is a tough choice this week but the Netthuania Nites have now lost three games in a row and have been falling quickly out of playoff consideration, currently they are not even making the consolation playoffs. They need to win two out of their last three games to get back in to the playoff picture.

Brawl of the week: The Snotknockers look to extend their winning streak of one game to two when the Sparrow Island Maties come into town. A win for the Snotknockers would almost seal the deal for a birth into the championship playoffs, while a loss for the Maties would all but eliminate them from a chance to get back to the Championship Game.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 11

It is getting to be that time of year that we have enough games amassed to think about how the scoring system is going. The big changes this year were the increase in Individual Defensive Player (IDP) points, and the return of negative points for DEF points allowed. I think that the bump in IDP points have worked out fine, overall they don't change too much, but every once in awhile a player will have a big game and rack out 6 or 8 points. Giving points to sacks does give importance to the DL, which was the goal. I am not as happy about the minus points for DEF. Overall our league is averaging lower scores than the NFL and I think that minus points for DEF is what is causing this. Next season I will rework the distribution of negative points, and prob drop the huge minus if the DEF allows alot of points. What are your thoughts? What needs to be changed and what needs to stay the same?

Remember that from now on football games start on Thursday.

Week 11 brings two more wins for the top two teams as they start to pull away from the pack and get ready for a run at the Championship. The Vampirtaes need to win just one more game to make it to the championship playoffs, Pillagers need to win two, and the Snotknockers can claim their spot with winning out the rest of the season. On the other hand everyone is still in the running for the consolation playoffs and only the &s and Rum Runners have no shot at the championship playoffs.

Game of the week from last week: The Red Burns continue their last season push (4-1-1 in the last six games) as they glide on by the faltering Maties. The win for the Red Burns has them holding the final championship playoff spot, while the Maties are now needing to get back on track to get in a spot to make the big playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: The Harbor Coast Red Burns once again are making a statement that they are serious about making it to the championship playoffs. They have faced tough opponents and have come out the best once again.

Davey Jones Team: Although the Maties are still putting up decent scores they have now gone 1-4 in the last five games. They once were in the lead pack running even with the Vampirates and the Pillagers but now they are scrambling to save their chances to get into the championship playoffs.

Brawl of the week: The Red Burns (6-4-1) once again have a statement game ahead of them when they play the 7-4 Snotknockers. If the Snotknockers win they will almost have a championship playoffs spot wrapped up, while a win the the Red Burns will put them in a solid position for the playoffs. As the season gets later the games get more important, and this is a big one.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 10

Remember that from now on football games start on Thursday. So make sure you get your team set in time. Also note that the &s played a DEF (Was) that was on a bye so I set the point total for the team to 0 for the week (down from 13).

Week 10 brings the close of the 2nd third of the PIFF regular season. With 5 games remaining all teams are still eligible to get into the championship playoffs (the top four teams make it). However some outcomes or more likely than others, the Rum Runners need to win out and have no more teams win their 7th game of the season, which chances are, won't happen. The Vampirates need to win three out of their next five games to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. After this week's games I will start to have a better rundown of the playoff picture.

Game of the week from last week: Last week the red hot Pillagers were taking on the Snotvia Snotknockers. The good game was not realized however when the Pillagers only scored one point through Sunday and ended up losing the game 25-13. That drops the Pillagers one game behind the Vampirates and only one game ahead of the Snotknockers.

Team to raise the sails: The Harbor Coast Red Burns took a large step last week to save their season. In a close 32-27 win they were able to get by the Rebels and put themselves only half a game out of the championship playoffs.

Davey Jones Team: We have to take the opportunity to pick out the Pillagers when they give us a chance, because they are few and far between. Week after week the Pillagers have been posting the high scores and it was somewhat odd to see that they could barley break the teens in scoring. Hopefully this was just an off week for the team.

Brawl of the week: After the Red Burns pulled out a big win over the Rebels they now face the Maties in a game that both teams need to win. The Maties have been doing fine this year starting out 5-1, however since then they have gone 1-3 and are in danger of losing their playoff spot.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 9

Remember that this week football games start on Thursday. So make sure you get your team set in time. Also Amber asked a question about picking All-Stars on the PIFF blog, I will answer her over there, and on our Yahoo league page.

Just as week 8 saw the end on one streak, week 9 is welcomed across Berry Isle as their losing streak comes to an end, and their team records their first win. There are 6 weeks left to go in the regular season.

Game of the week from last week: Last week there were two games of the week. The first was the Pillagers taking on the 2007 PIFF runner-ups Maties. The Pillagers stayed trye to form in this game and won by nine points, bringing their win streak up to 8 games. The other game of the week was the Vampirates facing off against the Rebels. Although the Vampirtaes offense had some problems, their two DLs racked up 13 points, enough to get the team a win.

Team to raise the sails: The Berry Isle Rum Runners had been victims of many close losses throughout the 08 season so far. So it is nice to see them get a win. But not only did they win but their defence actually played ok as well. Once they figure out the right defense all the time they will start to pile on the wins.

Davey Jones Team: The Tsukestan Pickles put up an anemic 7 points this last weekend when they faced off against the 'Nites. It is like the team didn't even show up to play.

Brawl of the week: The best week 10 match up is Davin's Stomping Good Pillagers versus Nicole's Mean Green Snotknockers. Currently the Snotknockers hold the final Championship Playoff spot, however one loss will allow other teams to pass them. While the Pillagers must win to keep up the pace with the Vampirates.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 8

Week 8 saw the end of the Vampirates undefeated run, which allowed the rest of the lead teams to get one step closer to the top of the pack.

Game of the week from last week: Davin's Pillagers went on to win their 7th game in a row as they win over the Red Burns from Harbor Coast. With Pirataly's loss this places the Pillagers tied with the best record at 7-1.

Team to raise the sails: The Snotvia Snotknockers were the only team to reach in the 30s this week, and they almost scored 40. They were able to stop their three game slide and are now only half a game out of a Championship Playoff spot.

Davey Jones Team: The Berry Isle Rum Runners once again are struck down by their defense. This week the Cincinnati Bengals allowed 35 points which sunk the Rum Runners chances, and left the team drinking grog in the galley.

Brawl of the week: Week 9 has two huge games, so there are two games of the week. The first is the 7-1 Vampirates playing the 5-2-1 Rebels. Both teams are in the top four and both need a win to keep pace with the lead group. The other huge game is the 7-1 Pillagers taking on the 6-2 Maties in another matchup between top 4 teams. The winner of this game will have a fair lead on the rest of the field going around the final bend of the season.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 7

*I will post this each week in the comments section on the Yahoo league page, and I will also post it at http://pirateislandsff.blogspot.com/ *

With week 7 coming to a close we pass the halfway mark in the PIFF regular season. The league has one remaining undefeated team, the Vampirates, and one team with no wins, the Rum Runners, who find a new heart breaking way to lose each week. The rest of the teams form a tight pack that is fighting for playoff spots as we go into the second half of the season.

Game of the week from last week: The game of the week lived up to its name as the Plankers were able to fight their way to a tie with the Red Burns during the Monday Night Football game. The Plankers are sure to give Cassel a raise after his performance.

Team to raise the sails: Ending the first half of the season with only one undefeated team means that the Priataly Vampirates will gain the honors this week. They are keeping one game ahead of the juggernaut Pillagers, and look to be the easy pick to make it into the Championship Playoffs.

Davey Jones Team: The Ninja Isle Eldars were able to squeak out a close one this week. No, it wasn't for a win, they were barely able to get positive points.

Brawl of the week: The number one scoring offense plays the number five offense this week when the Pillagers come rolling into Harbor Coast to face the men with the Red Burns. The Red Burns are one game out of a Championship playoff spot, while the Pillagers needs to continue to roll to keep up with the Vampirates. Should be a good one.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 6

The point totals were up in the 6th week of PIFF. No team scored less than 10 points and most teams scored in the 20s. I think everyone is starting to get an idea about which defenses are good, and which ones will give up alot of points.

Game of the week from last week: The Pillagers made things interesting when they played the Rebels in the game of the week. Going into Monday Night Football the game was even, with the Pillagers only having B. Edwards and the Cleveland DEF to play. Davin showed that he know what he was doing playing Cleveland's porous DEF against the Super Bowl Champions, as they surprisingly propelled him to a victory.

Team to raise the sails: Since I need to spread the love around, I won't mention that Davin's Burning and Pillaging has got him the high score again this week. Instead this week's team on the rise is the Scotslandi (they wear) Kilters who pulled out a 100% efficiency rating, to get them up to a 3-3 record. There is a long way to go for them to make the Championship Playoffs, but they are headed in the right direction.

Davey Jones Team: The Mean Green Snotknockers posted a low score of 10 points this week to drop them to 4-2 for the year. It is too early to press the panic button right now, but it looks like injuries are starting to take a toll on Snotvia's finest.

Brawl of the week: This one is close, but I am going to say that the match up between the 3-3 Harbor Coast Red Burns and the 2-3-1 Takawokonia Plankers will be the best game for next week. With a win either team would be in striking distance of the lead pack, however a loss for either team would throw them back into the pile of sub-par teams.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 5

Week 5 turned out to be full of close and intriguing games. The Sparrow Island Maties relied on DB A. Winfield to win them the game on Monday Night Football. The coaches for both the Pillagers and the Plankers played their optimum lineup in their game, and the game of the week left only one undefeated team.

Game of the week from last week: The big game from week five was the Pirataly Vampirates versus the Mean Green Snotvia Snotknockers. Both teams came into the game undefeated, but the Vampirates was able to win the game by a couple of points. The Vampirates are now 5-0, The Snotknockers fall into the leading pack with a record of 4-1.

Team to raise the sails: Although the Pillagers are 4-1 they are starting to gain steam. They posted the high score for the week again, and it seems like it doesn't matter which players are in the game -all of them produce. The Pillagers lost to the Vampirates in week one, and will be looking forward to week 14 for revenge.

Davey Jones Team: The Ambersandia Golden Squiggles struggled this week to post 0 points. Despite K. Orton's better than average week the Buffalo Defense allowed an impressive 41 points against the Arizona Cardnals, that deficit was too difficult for the &s to overcome.

Brawl of the week: No pairing this week screams out to pay attention to, but the dominant Svinksland Pillagers will be heading over to the perennial powerhouse Kreplachistan Rebels to duke it out. The Rebels needs the win to get into the top four, while the Pillagers needs too keep pace with the Vampirates.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 4

Check off another week, that will make 4 of the 15 regular season weeks done. This week we saw our first tie of the season (Plankers vs. Rebels), the first negative points (that hasn't happened since the 2005 season), and the number of undefeated teams is down to two.

Game of the week from last week: Last weeks game to watch was Purple Pirates of Sparrow's Island (3-0) versus the Dark Menace from Pirataly (3-0). The game's result hung in the balance throughout the Monday Night football game, and all seemed to be going the Maties way when the Steelers recovered a fumble for a touchdown. But the Vampirates wouldn't go down so easily and Ben Roethlisberger lead the way back for a win for Pirataly. Both teams played a great game and both coaches posted 100% efficiency scores for choosing who to play. These teams look like early favorites to get into the championship playoffs.

Team to raise the sails: The Big Bad Red Burns from Harbor Coast posted a week high score of 28 points, in big part due to the young QB Jason Campbell. RB stud A. Peterson also had a good game and the red and white coasted past the 'Nites.

Davey Jones Team: Week 12 of the 2005 season was the last time a team scored in the negatives. In the game the Futontopia Eldars (in their last season at Futontopia, the next year they moved to the Ninja Isle) lost to the Tea Republic Steepers -4 to 43. This week the Netthuania Fighting Mennonites racked up a -2 score after the Arizona defence let 50 points go by. The 'Nites are only 2-2 but if their DEF can't play any better this might be a long season for the artichoke farmers.

Brawl of the week: As if the great match up between the Maties and Vampirates wasn't good enough last week, this week the Vampirates will take center stage again when they face the Snotvia Snotknockers. Two undefeated teams enter the match, only one will survive, unless they tie... they they both will survive on a technicality. Grab your popcorn and your Stat Tracker this one is gonna be good.

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 3

*I will post this each week in the comments section on the Yahoo league page, and I will also post it at http://pirateislandsff.blogspot.com/ *

The third week in the PIFF is over and we are starting to see some separation between the teams in the standings. The most interesting game this weekend was the Ampersands pulling off a narrow win over the Plankers. Since I have Stat Tracker I got updates to the score as the Monday Night game was going. The lead in the PIFF game switched back and forth a couple of times until J. Cotchery finally got a big catch to put the Golden Squiggles up for good.

Game of the week from last week: The game to watch from last week was the Red Burns playing the Red Hot Vampirates. The Piratalieans were able to take a convincing win and move on to 3-0, in large part do to Franky G. at running back.

Team to raise the sails: Davin's Pillagers notched a score of 35 points this last week, well above the rest of the scores for the league, the next closest was the Vampirates with 26. There wasn't one player on the Pillagers that scored more than 6 points, however, all but one player on the team scored. So the huge score was due to a team effort rather than one player getting hot. The Pillagers look like they are a solid team.

Davey Jones Team: The ailing Eldars once again post the low score for the week. The team looks like they have depth on the bench, but the players are just too inconsistent to know who should be played and who should be benched.

Brawl of the week: All eyes will be turned to the great match up we have in week 4 between the Sparrow Island Maties and the Pirataly Vampirates. Both teams are 3-0 and both teams have been winning their games by a comfortable margin. It will be interesting to see how things go during the first week of byes.

All-Stars Week 3:

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 2

The second week of the PIFF season is over, and scoring around the league is down. It looks like this is a combination of some quarterbacks and running backs under performing, as well as some defenses allowing many points, and toss in Houston and Baltimore not playing and we get a couple of teams barely scoring any points. The upset of the week has to go to the Pillagers who was able to soundly defeat the Fighting Mennonites. Thus making both teams 1-1.

Game of the week from last week: Last week the game to watch was the Maties versus the Kilters, which was the only game between 1-0 teams. It turned out that the chaps from Sparrow Island were able to beat the Scotslandi-ers without too much problems with a final score of 25-7.

Team to raise the sails: The Harbor Coast Red Burns posted a week high score of 33, to bring the make them the highest scoring 1-1 team at 50 points. They have a core of young, high powered players with Adrian Peterson and Jason Campbell, and a defense that looks to actually give the Red Burns some positive points.

Davey Jones Team: It is a tough call for this week, The Eldars scored 3 points, the Kilters 7, and the Steepers 10. However only one team could have been saved by playing better players that were sitting on the bench: the Steepers. After winning week one, the Steepers pulled the semi-effective Jets defense in favor of the porous Dallas D. This move not only cost the team 5 points but also the win.

Brawl of the week: This week all eyes will be on the match up between the Big Red Burns (1-1) and the Pirataly (they want your blood) Vampirates (2-0). The Vampirates have been making their case to be the turn-around team for 2008, while the Red Burns have been posting high scores regularly. The winner of this game will most likely be in a top 4 spot by weeks end.

All-Stars Week 2:

DB1 C. Woodson 9 Rebels
DB2 C. Bailey 3 Eldars
DL1 P. Willis 6 Rum Runners
DL2 D. White 5 Kilters

(I failed to mention how I pick the coach of the week last time. To find the percent I look at points the team scored versus points possible from all player on the team, including players on the bench. The coach of the week played the highest percent of points possible for their team. So for example this week Rusty got as many points as he could have out of his team.)

PIFF Highlights and All-Stars 08 Week 1

Week one is over and there were quite a few surprises to kick off the season. The upset of the week goes to the Netthuania Fighting Mennonites who pulled off a huge upset over the perennial powerhouse Takawokonia Plankers. Even if Brady didn't go down with an injury chances are slim that they could have matched the firepower of the Mennonite Menace. Keep in mind the Nites combined record in the PIFF is 13-30-1 over the last three seasons; it looks like these two teams are heading in different directions.

Brawl of the week: The only matchup between teams with 1-0 records next week is the Sparrow Island Maties, who lost the PIFF championship last year. Versus the Scotslandi Kilters who failed to make it to the championship playoffs by one game. The winner of this game will at least be in the top five teams after week two, and since less than 30% of the teams make it to the championship playoffs every win against a winning team is huge.

Team to raise the sails: Pirataly Vampirates. The Vampirates scored a league high 33 points and still had some players in the bench that could have been used for an even better score. Historically the Vampirates have been fading, and last year posted a dismal 3-12 record. However Roethlesburger and Gore look like they are stepping up this year.

Davey Jones Team: The Takawokonia Plankers had an abysmal first week. Their all-star QB Brady got hurt and will be out the whole year. Chad Ocho Cinco got a total of 0 points. And Steven Jackson only got 3 points. The Plankers, who are always a favorites to compete for the PIFF Championship, have fallen completely flat out of the gate and lost only their 6th regular season game ever.
